Mens Hats With Character - 1908

"Hawes" must have been the company name and "von Gal" the line? Not too catchy. Maybe that's why they aren't a household name now. Because the hats were great!
(But why did they need height, weight and waist measurement to fit a hat?)

  1. Those hats are indeed terrific, but I second your curiosity in regards to why they'd need to know measurements beyond your head circumference. Perhaps they were simply trying to provide their customers with the best suited hat to their frame and body size?

  2. The name Hawes.von Gal was the surnames of the two owners. It was a partnership between Benjamin Hawes and Edward von Gal. I know this as my grandmother was a von Gal from the area.

  3. That is so cool to know! And it makes sense. Together it is an odd name...but now I understand. Thanks so much!
